Welcome to Switchstance Recordings – where music comes first. Based in Cologne, Germany, we've been a home for our friends and artists since 2001, operating as both a label and publishing company. Founded by Thomas Katongole-Strauch – better known as DOGU of Ancient Astronauts – Switchstance started as a platform for his own crew's music and has since grown into a roster of artists from across the globe. For us, it's always been about the music itself – beats and melodies that travel between cultures and bring people together on dancefloors and headphones around the world.

Switchstance Recordings stands for a groovy blend of organic Hip Hop, Downtempo, Funk, Reggae, Dope Beats, Afro, Jazz, Latin and Breakbeats. Our family of artists includes Ancient Astronauts, Protassov, Kabanjak, Muito Kaballa, Nilotika Cultural Ensemble, Deela, Fixed Error, DOGU, Ejuku, Enrique Nicolas Noviello, Core Fields, Azeem, Void Pedal, Cypher Kabaka, Astroboter, Mango Juice, Aeronautix and Sema Lo.
The name says it all: we give our producers and DJs total freedom to "switch" between styles, dig into new territories, and follow the music wherever it leads.
Our sound grows out of the records we grew up on – Funk, Jazz, Latin, 90's Hip Hop, Afrobeat and Reggae – flipped and reshaped with modern electronic production. It's a tribute to the cultures that feed our music, and a soundtrack for a conscious, open-minded generation. What we live – music, boardsports, arts, travels – flows straight into what you hear: a sound that's constantly in motion.
