Mango Juice

Born in 1975 in Duisburg/Germany, Mango Juice (originally named Pierre Hoppenkamps) was brought up in the multicultural environment of Germany, having german and north-african blood running through his veins. He first became a fan of Reggae around 1992, and since then this music and culture has determined every aspect of his life and his heart.

From the beginning roots reggae artists like Burning Spear, Bob Marley, Lee "Scratch" Perry, Culture or Israel Vibration influenced Mango. They showed him the deeper meaning behind Rastafarian culture, and taught him about the equality of all beings. Several long stays on the island of Jamaica in the early nineties immersed Mango Juice in Rasta culture and the roots of Reggae music. During these visits the music of artists like Buju Banton, Sizzla, Garnet Silk, Luciano or Anthony B inspired him to write his own lyrics to Reggae riddims and to truly embrace the spirit and philosophy of Rasta.

These experiences on Jamaica gave the courage to work on his career as an artist. In 2001 he became a member of german/dutch Reggae band called "The Solution" and toured with them throughout Europe. Mango played at festivals like the Tarifa Reggae/ESP, Reggae Jam/GER, X-Mas Sunsplash/AT, Hot Point/ESP, and shared the stage with Reggae artists like Burning Spear, Macka B, The Gladiators, General Levy, Negrotes` HIFI Sound and more.

When Tom Strauch, Switchstance Recordings label founder and manager, heard Mango´s music for the first time, he was struck by the deep consciousness of his voice and lyrics. And after learning that Mango Juice came from the same area as the Switchstance family, it was just a matter of time before they connected. When they finally did, Tom took him to Kabanjak´s studio, and they immediately started producing custom-made music for him. Mango´s work in the studio with Kabanjak and Tom Strauch (aka the Ancient Astronauts) also led to alot of touring.

The combination of his lyrical talent with their DJ skills spawned a hot brew of deep Reggae riddims & dopebeats that resulted in sweaty dancefloors. After being featured on 5 songs of the Deela album "Mano Mano", Mango Juice is ready to release his debut release on Switchstance Recordings, the "Cry Out EP". Produced by Kabanjak and the Ancient Astronauts this one will satisfy the hearts of the real Reggae, Dub and Breaks & Beats Headz. Seen?
